Setagaya Public Theatre (SePT) is proud to present an international collaboration between France and Japan, featuring performances by the next generation of Japanese circus performers.

Don’t miss your chance to see five circus artists pour their souls into this performance!

Cie L’Oublié(e) shocked circus fans in 2019 with its stunning production of When Angels Fall, the company’s first ever performance in Japan.

Now, Cie L’Oublié(e) director Raphaëlle Boitel has selected a group of Japanese circus performers to create a new work, titled Fierce 5. This performance features a wide array of circus techniques, including dance, aerial acrobatics, juggling, tightrope walking, and more. Fierce 5 is based on Cie L’Oublié(e)’s 5es Hurlants. 5es Hurlants is one of the company’s most well-known works, and they have presented it in touring performances around the world.

Fierce 5 is a thematic exploration of a Japanese idiom about perseverance that can be literally translated as “fall down seven times, stand up eight times.” This performance is a homage to the world of the circus and the people who live in that world. It is a world fraught with constant risk, a world in which people continually strive to go beyond their limits. These performers may slip and they may fall, but they get right back up again, every single time. Don’t miss your chance to witness five circus artists pouring their souls into this performance!
