Terumasa Hino Presents “Jazz for Kids” is a Jazz concert held once a year with Setagaya Public Theatre as the organizer. This concert is a two-day project divided into Terumasa Hino Quintet Live on the first day and Dream Jazz Band 11th Anniversary Concert on the second, which commemorated the 10th anniversary last year. The title includes the words “for kids” but actually this program is not only for children. We are sure that their family and even big Jazz fans would be satisfied with this project. Japanese top Jazz musicians are waiting for you to join our session in Setagaya Public Theatre.

Hino is widely acknowledged as one of greatest Japanese Jazz trumpeters and is currently based in both Japan and NY. In the years following his arrival to New York City he has worked with various artists including: Joachim Kuhn, Gil Evans, Jackie McLean, Carlos Garnett, Sam Jones, Elvin Jones, as well as leading his own group. From the 1980s he has toured several countries and regions including Europe. In March 2015 he performed with John Beasley (Pf), James Genus (B), John Hart (G) and Jeff “Tain” Watts (Ds) at the Blue Note Tokyo. In recent years, he is active not only as a player, but also in charitable activities and teaching young musicians. Members of Hino Quintet are also remarkably talented and world-class. Ippei Kato (G) is the newest member of the group who is known for his great “teach-oneself” style of play. Akira Ishii (Pf) has had numerous sessions with domestic and foreign musicians. Takashi Sugawa, (B) who graduated from Berklee College of Music, and whose musical style have been created by various session experiences all over the world, can also be seen. Recently, he has performed with such musicians as Peter Brotzmann, Todd Nicholson, Tommy Campbell, Gene Jackson, etc. On drums, Noritaka Tanaka, has been not only active as a drummer, but also as an engineer in Chicago for 10 years. His music field is not only Jazz, but also Electronica or Post-rock. He has had various sessions with Jeff Parker from Tortoise, AACM, Jason Ajemian, etc.

Dream Jazz Band
Dream Jazz Band is a big band consisting of 44 members from public junior school in Setagaya-ku, Tokyo. They has been having lessons by Jazz musicians for 4 months and their concert will be held in Setagaya Public Theatre full of audiences. Some of the members had no experiences of music instruments when they started the band but in the concert they will be on the stage with confident. The young’s passion and sounds would get you moved. Also, sessions with different combinations of musicians will be had, which are obviously unmissable.

Childcare Service

A childcare service is normally available for performances for which advance tickets are sold.
However, as capacity is limited, use of childcare service is by reservation only.

Charge: ¥2,200 per child

You may reserve childcare services up to noon of the day 3 days before the desired reservation time, but when the number of children registered reaches capacity, applications will closed.
So please make your reservation well in advance.
Also, please consult with the theatre regarding children with special needs.

Wheelchair Spaces

Both Setagaya Public Theatre and Theatre Tram are equipped with wheelchair spaces to allow visitors to watch performances from their wheelchairs. However, as capacity is limited, use of wheelchair spaces is by reservation only. So please make your reservation well in advance.
