Overview

Two shocking plays by British playwright Simon Stevens will be performed simultaneously in a double bill.

From February to March 2025, two works by British playwright Simon Stevens will be performed simultaneously (double bill) by the same director and performers.

Simon Stevens is one of the leading playwrights in the British theater world. His writing skills have been highly praised, with the stage adaptation of his novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time winning him a Laurence Olivier Award and a Tony Award. In this double bill, we will be performing ``Pornography'' and ``Rage,'' which are two of his works that have a strong social theme and had a profound impact on the Western theater world. "Pornography" is a work that director Tomoya Kiriyama performed as a lead performance at KAAT Kanagawa Arts Theater in 2021 and received great acclaim, but this time it will be a double bill with "Rage" as a performance sponsored by Setagaya Public Theater. We have decided to create and perform a new production.

Up-and-coming director Tomoya Kiriyama makes his first performance at Theater Tram

After studying directing at Nihon University College of Art, Kiriyama was recognized for his potential and studied abroad in Berlin under the Agency for Cultural Affairs' overseas training program for emerging artists. At the Gryps Theater where he trained, he learned German theater methods that allowed him to deepen his interpretation of plays and apply them to his creative works. On the other hand, he has a wealth of experience in the creative field, having worked as an assistant director and director under famous directors such as Akira Shirai and Mansai Nomura, the theater's old and new artistic directors, as well as Yukio Ninagawa and Simon McBurney. We have earned your trust.
Utilizing his study abroad experience and extensive field experience, Kiriyama is actively expanding his theater activities by directing a wide range of plays, from classical plays to plays by up-and-coming writers, as well as translated plays by Brecht, Shakespeare, and Chekhov. will make its first appearance.

The cast will appear in both works, with the first act ``Pornography'' followed by an intermission, and the second act ``Rage.'' The cast will perform two works at once. Please look forward to it.
