“A theater workshop for people in their 20s and 30s: Thinking about having/not having children”

We will begin a theater workshop where people in their 20s and 30s will gather to express what they are thinking and feeling right now.
In today's Japanese society, the idea of valuing ``individuality and diversity'' and respecting the choices and thoughts of each person is widespread. On the other hand, stereotypes about what people should be based on age, gender, and other attributes are still deeply rooted in society.
Under such circumstances, people in their 20s and 30s are expected to behave as members of society and must also make plans for their individual lives. When I started thinking about it, it seemed like there were a lot of options, but it also felt like there weren't any. What does everyone actually think?
I would like to start by talking about the uncertainties of being in your 20s and 30s.

Overview

This year's theme is "Having/Not Having Children."
I think many people feel anxious when thinking about having/not having children.Work and economic situation, the division of labor with a partner at home, the role of a partner in the first place, the responsibility of raising a child in an unstable society, the unknown of childbirth and childcare...
I think there are few opportunities for people of the same generation to share thoughts and feelings about all kinds of choices related to children.

As people of the same generation gathered together for the first time, we would like to share our thoughts on ``having/not having children'' and think about it together.
You are welcome even if you have no theater experience. Please join us.

Facilitator Profile and Comments

Nao Kanaya (Director/Aoyama Nerimono Association)

Born in Saitama prefecture. While he was in high school, he formed the Aoyama Nerimono Association and was mainly in charge of planning, playwriting, and directing.
I play theater with various people, and I also work as a Japanese language teacher while doing theater.

Since I was young, I've lived my life thinking that I would never get married or have children, and now I'm in my 30s. (It has become. I wonder if it is?) When I think that I, as a living being, as a social being, and as an individual, are still somehow struggling to survive today, I feel somehow , it may make you feel a little overwhelmed.
Apparently, many people around the world reach a turning point in their lives (!?) in their 20s and 30s when it comes to whether or not to have children, and because of that, there are various things that come to mind. Maybe they are bothered by the negative voices, angry, or just not paying attention to what they are saying at all.
This time, I would like to share my thoughts that cannot be put into words, and try to express what I have said with my body, and gently give form to the feelings we have in our 20s and 30s. I think. It's okay if you don't have any theater experience. We look forward to seeing you in our warm practice room in the cold winter.
