“Theater Tram Next Generation” is a project for discovering and nurturing young talent by the Setagaya Public Theater. Once a year, groups selected through open recruitment are given the opportunity to perform at the Theater Tram, and the theater provides full support for the performance. This time, the 1th time, we have selected "Antonin Raymond's building dismantled story of the old gymnasium", which is a poetic and fresh brushwork of the young writer Ono Mariko, who is a group called "Shinko".Based on his own experiences, from the entrance of female students at a certain university, to the symbolic event of “demolition of the old gymnasium”, and graduation, the characters are vividly portrayed while sometimes leaping through time and space. I will draw with a realistic reality. The director is Kae Inaba, a new generation of Bungakuza whose debut work "The Crusaders" the year before last attracted much attention. This is a work by a writer and director who the Setagaya Public Theater has high hopes for in the future of the theatrical world.

《From the playwright Ono Mariko, who presides over the taste》

This play is modeled after real events that happened at Tokyo Women's Christian University in 2008-2009.
In the spring of 2009, I read an article in the newspaper that the gymnasium of the women's college I attended was going to be demolished. At that time, there were two gymnasiums in the university, which were called old gymnasiums.
In the article, I also learned that one student wrote a thesis about the dismantling of the gymnasium. She researched how the old gymnasium was designed to function in this school and whether it played such a role, and wrote her thesis.Don't tell the professor in charge of her master's thesis. She desperately said that she wrote about the old gymnasium.
I thought this was such a beautiful story.I thought it was a very beautiful way of raising my voice.
For some reason, I felt like I was saved from my frustrated college days by her actions.
and wrote a play. "Antonin Raymond's architecture being dismantled: the story of the old gymnasium".It's about her, me, and the hundreds of girls at that school.
Maybe with time it will all go away. But we never stop living.I would like to take this opportunity to perform this play again, and I hope that this play will show such "a modest resistance from human beings to what is being lost."Thank you very much.

《Directed by Kae Inaba》
My name is Kae Inaba and I belong to the production department of the Bungakuza theater company.
I usually face writers in distant countries, let alone writers who died hundreds of years ago.
Of course there are good things and bad things about that.
The good thing is that it allows for a little fabrication in the name of misreading,
The bad thing is that I can't easily exchange words with the writer.

This time, in the same generation, same-sex playwrights,
I was blessed with the opportunity to work with Mariko Ono, and we have already exchanged many words while working together.

Her words are often described as poetic and beautiful,
Watching the sweet time of the schoolgirls being dismantled along with the building at a maddening speed,
I unintentionally felt the "dead smell" of the large flowers rapidly decaying.
Together with the building, their time is decayed, crushed, and evened out.
Even if you try to "reproduce" them by keeping them in your memory, your memory will "deconstruct" over time.
When these two acts lively dance,
I want to create works that are not only beautiful, but also have a faint stench of death.

With the great creativity of the cast and staff, and a little fabrication of my own,
I would be happy if I could bring each of Mr. Onoma's words to life in the theater.

Please look forward to it.
