The work of the popular playwright Richard Bean, who is currently attracting the most attention in the British theater world, will appear in the Japanese theater world for the first time! "Harvest", which was premiered in London in 2005 and won various awards, became a hot topic in the British theater world. *

"Harvest" depicts the turbulent life of a man from the ages of 19 to 110, who devoted his entire life to the pig farming industry, in an English farming village.A drama spanning about 100 years up to the present day, mixed with humor and satirical lines, depicting the "strength" of people who earnestly try to enjoy their daily lives despite being plagued by war and the government's inaction. It's a well-drawn masterpiece.Speedy story development with plenty of service spirit that pulls the audience's interest!A cast team full of charm that weaves the history of the taiga!
Please take a look at this work that will give you energy and courage at the end of 2012.

* Premiered at Royal Court, London, 2005.Winner of several awards, including a British Critics Circle Award for Best Picture, an Evening Standard Award for Best Picture and nominations for the Laurence Olivier Award.

★We have received a message from Toru Watanabe, who will be appearing on the show★
In this work, I play the life of a man from the ages of 19 to 110 who dedicated his life to pig farming. As an actor, it is interesting and rewarding to act out the transitions of a person from the time they are young to the time they grow old, but I don't think that should be the goal.Rather, I have to play the role of a human being who lives with one thing in mind and one thing in mind.In modern times, it seems that it is difficult to aim for one thing, dream one thing, and stick to it. I feel timid. That's why I think this work, which depicts a person who devotes his life to one thing, is very timely and meaningful.
Currently in Japan, it is difficult to be positive, but whether or not you can be positive depends not only on your environment, but also on how you live your life and how you maintain your motivation.Even if people think it's going to be hard, if the person is positive, you can live positively.Through the life of a man full of vitality who lived brightly and positively through a turbulent life even in difficult situations, I hope to convey such things. (at the Setagaya Public Theater in July 2012)
Toru Watanabe (performer)

★We have received a message from the screenwriter, Richard Bean★
I am pleasantly surprised and moved by the fact that my work will be performed at the Setagaya Public Theater in Japan.
Harvest is somewhat autobiographical in the sense that my own family ran a pig farm in East Yorkshire.
This work depicts the history and decline of agriculture in England in the 20th century.Britain has always relied on cheap imports from the colonies.Domestic farmers, on the other hand, were forced to become entrepreneurs, and thus the “pig factory” style of farming began. Many factory farmers went from rich to poor, but a sudden and ill-conceived government order led to a major decline in British agriculture, leaving farmers (farmers) isolated and, at worst, I even got involved in crime.
Harvest follows a family trying to survive through turbulent years.I hope everyone in Japan will enjoy the story of a family fighting the government for human souls, survival and love.
Richard Bean (Screenplay)

★We have received a message from director Shintaro Mori★
"Harvest" is a story composed of seven places set in the kitchen of a small British farmer (the Harrison family).Scene 1914 is 1934, Scene 1944 is 1958, Scene 1979 is 1995, Scene 2005 is 10, Scene 20 is 100, Scene XNUMX is XNUMX, and Scene XNUMX is XNUMX to XNUMX years pass between all scenes, during which some are born and others die, and kitchen furniture and business tools undergo various changes with the times. If there's one thing that hasn't changed, it's the Harrison family's "tenacity", which they've fought and defended to live on this land in the face of all kinds of hardships. In particular, the hero William Harrison's "unyielding" is extraordinary.Although he lost both his legs in the war, he fulfilled his pig farming dream and devoted his life to pig farming.Like pigs, he shows strong resistance and adaptability to the environment, and survives XNUMX years of turbulence with the creed of "Always have a song in your heart!"This time, Mr. Toru Watanabe of Bungakuza will play such a strong William. Please look forward to the harvest of life filled with joy and anger created by Toru and other energetic actors.
Shintaro Mori (director)
