"Machigai no Kyogen", an adaptation of Shakespeare's "Comedy of Mistakes", will appear at the Setagaya Public Theater for the first time in five years!This work premiered in 5, and has since been performed in Japan, as well as being invited to perform at the Globe Theater in London, on tour in the United States, and at the Kennedy Center.
By the late Shakespeare researcher Yasuya Takahashi, this work was set in Kurokusa, a small country in the Seto Inland Sea during the Muromachi period.The story unfolds when Naosuke, a merchant of Shirakusa, an enemy country, lands in Kurokusa in order to reunite his twin sons who were separated at an early age.
There are plenty of highlights, such as the turmoil of people caught up in the confusion of two pairs of twins, which makes full use of Kyogen masks, and the harmonious ensemble of Kyogen performers centered on the Mansaku no Kai clan.
The phrase "Yakushi ya, yakushi ya" will also stick in your ears.
